But decades after their first marriage, are they really in a better place?
Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) is still tormenting them on autoplay. That and so much more was wrong about this long-awaited event, let’s unpack the baffling way the show decided to thrust the latest nuptials upon us.
Phyllis is the Main Character
First of all, Phyllis has been a big part of Dricket’s story, but her manifestation on the big day was overdone. Way too much Phyllis, and not enough flashbacks.
Specifically, why talk about Phyllis putting an octopus in the honeymooner’s first wedding bed if we can’t see the hilarity?
We have seen this scene in flashbacks before, with less reason. We need flashbacks if this story is going to land and thus far there have been none, zero, zed.
Where are the Flashbacks?
The show will conclude on a subsequent episode, so there is a chance we will see some of the 80s in all their glory, but if so, why pack it all in at the end instead of showing us what this story is all about as it culminates—the power of unrequited love in the face of obstacles?
There’s an enormous amount of nostalgic value in this storyline but it feels like the show is just throwing us a bone to tie up loose ends.
The Wedding Dress is No
Someone has to say it—Christine’s wedding dress is scary. She looks like a stripper in it and it is not her style at all.
The dress was voted on by the fans, but still, couldn’t they have made an, ahem, adjustment to the decolletage? I have never seen as much of Cricket’s chest as I did on Friday, and I don’t know why.
Circling back to the nostalgia, it was great to see Gina Roma (Patty Weaver) and Nina Webster (Tricia Cast). But again, where are the flashbacks of these two incredible powerhouses who have had significant storylines on Y&R?
Gina was glorious sticking it to Phyllis and we think she’d be a blast in place of the hostess at Crimson Lights and/or Society.
What do you think—did the show drop the ball or did you love how the latest chapter of Danny and Cricket’s story was told?
