New details regarding Nick Reiner, suspected of killing Rob Reiner and Michele Springer arrived on social media. Some of it isn’t new, but it certainly seems to help craft a story about the nature of their son Nick. Read on for more details.
Triggering Caution
When Jakson Buhaj, the producer of TMZ’s YouTube channel gave a monologue on December 19, he started his presentation with a warning. He mentioned that new information might be “slightly triggering to some people.”
After that, he briefly summarized the original report, which included the story of conflict at a Christmas party at Conan O’Brien’s place. Reportedly, Nick Reiner made a scene at the party and subsequently had a heated argument with his dad, Rob.

Of course, the recap explained how his sister Romy found the bodies of her parents the next day. Meanwhile, Nick was later taken into custody by the police. The outlet updated on a lot of aspects about the arrest and the party. Firstly, they provided a more vivid account of Nick’s conduct at the party.
Jakson quoted sources saying that Nick persisted in asking the same three questions to different people: “What’s your name? What’s your last name? And are you famous?” He was said to have harassed a star from SNL, who requested privacy. Afterward, Nick allegedly gave them “a thousand yard stare before storming off.”
Romy Finding Her Parents Dead
After that, the discussion turned to the recapping of Nick’s sister, Romy discovering the bodies of her parents. Allegedly, she found her father in a horrifying state and ran out, not even catching sight of her mother. So, a friend called the emergency services. Apparently, Romy’s initial call was to a family friend, Billy Crystal. Plus, she informed the police that her brother was a dangerous sort of person.

Next, Jakson brought up two videos. One documented the moment when Nick was taken into custody while the other was a weird, nine-year-old YouTube clip by Nick Reiner. There, he pretended to take drugs and said, “I’m going to go kill that dog.” The producer indicated that, in contrast to his recent drained appearance, Nick seemed to be in good shape in the old video.
A well-crafted Update
Nick Reiner wasn’t at home when police arrested him, and it is not clear when he went there, allegedly to kill his parents. But, the outlet did talk about him going to a hotel. Jakson said, “Nick checks into the hotel.” Plus, “When the authorities arrived Romy told them that Nick, who lived in the guest house of their residence, was nowhere to be found.” Well, the cops found him “in downtown Los Angeles.”
The way the story was presented seemed well-crafted in terms of entertainment true crime blogging. Naturally, viewers could easily conclude that a man going through a mental health crisis eventually led to the tragic event. Of course, time will tell how it all ends. In the meantime, lots of people appreciated the feedback because the true crime is horrifying and current.
Viewers React
The new video footage from nine years ago didn’t really change much for those who watched the update. But, some folks picked up on the threat to hurt a dog. One viewer said, “People who are mean to animals will also be mean to other humans…it’s a red flag..”
Many people feel that the emphasis on mental health seems too much. And, some of them felt that Rob and Michelle Reiner should have acted on the red flags.
One true crime follower opined, “I read Rob Reiner had nearly called the police on him a few times but didn’t. If you’re having those thoughts about a loved one realize that’s not a normal thing to have to consider. If you think your loved one is a danger to themselves or others get them involuntarily committed before it comes to this.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Absolutely devastating. I do believe this young man suffered from drugs, induced schizophrenia.
- I feel for his sister having to find her parents . This is truly heartbreaking.
- The other siblings will have a lifetime of trauma, loss and pain. I feel so sorry for them.
- The sister didn’t even wait around long enough to find out the scope of it all. She knew right away what the deal was and started making calls. What a trauma to go through.
