Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are the names that may find themselves without any titles when the day of King William comes.
Calls for the Sussexes and the Yorks to have their titles stripped have been happening on and off over the years, but nothing’s been done.
However, royal sources are convinced that the era of William is coming to end it. No more fighting over who should and shouldn’t use ‘HRH,’ they simply won’t legally have it at all to decide whether they want to play ball with it.
Will Prince William’s “Change” Come With Title Removal For Certain Royals?
Perhaps Prince Harry had a point in wanting to change his children’s last names to “Spencer.” Obviously this move didn’t get underway due to dear uncle Earl Spencer advising Prince Harry to reconsider his stance on the matter.
Following Prince William’s admission that there are many things he wishes to change within the British Monarchy, sources are now convinced that stripping non-working royals of their titles could be one of those changes.
“It’s pretty much accepted within the royal household that once he does take the throne, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will immediately get their titles yanked,” an insider told National Examiner.
The source continues, “He hasn’t said it publicly but the things he’s said in this interview, this big emphasis on how he will change things, is certainly being seen by a lot of people as him all but coming out and confirming that cutting Harry and Meghan completely loose is part of the plan.”
We all know how Meghan Markle has been using her “HRH” title, despite reaching a deal with the late Queen Elizabeth to put it into abeyance upon her and her husband’s exit from the institution. Royal sources reacted to it when the news broke at the time as well.
“There is no way King William will stand for this,” a source told the Daily Beast. “The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”
Discussions around the matter even provoked a response from former minister Norman Baker.
“The law is not clear, but I have little doubt that as the bestowing of an HRH is in the gift of the monarch, the monarch could remove the HRH title,” Norman Baker revealed to the Daily Beast. “It would basically be the equivalent to an executive order in the U.S.”
So until the time comes, I guess.
