Recent reports suggest that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, made the decision to “step back and rest” her podcast. The news follows her previous venture with Spotify and a more recent collaboration with Lemonada Media and her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast.
A Flimsy Deal?
According to Neil Sean, a prominent royal commentator, the deal Meghan signed with Lemonada was “very flimsy” from the outset. Lemonada reportedly took on her existing Archetypes” content, originally from Spotify, in the hopes of generating interest in her podcast.
During his Daily News Headlines vlog on Wednesday, Sean noted that even the most recent episode, featuring Tina Knowles (Beyoncé’s mother), “barely got a ripple,” with listeners “just pick[ing] up on the highlighted… bits.”
The reasons for this “resting” of the podcast, as outlined by Sean, appear to be somewhat confusing. Meghan said that she wishes to “focus on her brand.” But, he added, “the Duchess is a colossal business nightmare,” noting that allegedly, “people [are] leaving left, right, and center.” He claimed that’s because her staff “cannot abide it.”
Flip-Flopping A Lot?
He suggested that Meghan Markle, who allegedly keeps flipp-flopping and changing her mind, left staff with egg on their faces. Allegedly, they had been “looking out for guests for the next series of the podcast,” only for her to seemingly decide she “can’t be bothered doing that.”
Furthermore, Sean asserted that the deal with Lemonada was “very, very flaky indeed” because “there was no deal” in the traditional sense of a guaranteed payout. He explained that Meghan desired the arrangement to be presented as if she were partnering with Lemonada because it was a “female company,” and that it would cover “empowering” and “fun girl talk.”
No Fun At All
The Royal Family commentator claimed “it wasn’t fun,” as “there was no girl talk.” In his opinion, the content was “utter dross.” He specifically mentioned that much of the podcast revolved around Meghan discussing her “medical conditions” and “clapping back at all the critics.”
Going in hard, Sean also said that he knows people who worked with her. And, they allegedly told him that “the woman is a nightmare to work with.” Ultimately, the podcast’s pause was attributed to a lack of financial success.
Sean pointed out that Meghan was reportedly on a percentage-based deal, where “70% would have gone to Meghan, 30% to Lemonada.” He posed the question: “What’s 70% of nothing?” The apparent lack of earnings, combined with the “circus surrounding Megan…costs a lot of money.” Those costs include “the lighting, the filming, her picking this, the editing, the subjects, the ideas of what she wants.”
Costs Of The Podcast Are High
More than likely, Sean believes, the decision to rest her podcast was cost-related. It doesn’t seem that Meghan has a flair for podcasting, as she literally had everything handed to her, but she still couldn’t make it work. According to Sean, the core issue is that it’s “too much like hard work” for Meghan, and she “simply couldn’t get the guests.”
The vlogger slammed Prince Harry’s wife, saying, “Meghan loves money and she’s realized that being a podcaster is simply not going to make her a billionaire.” He ended by reiterating Spotify’s alleged initial assessment: a “grifter with no audio talent.”
Reactions In The Comments
In the comments section of Neil Sean’s YouTube video, one viewer remarked, “Unfortunately, as she slides quickly toward 50 she cannot hook that real billionaire. They want 20 and 30 yr olds. She is 20 yrs out of date.”
Other comments echoed similar feelings regarding her age and business prospects. Another critic wrote, “It’s really PATHETIC when you have to constantly tell an ADULT MIDDLE AGED WOMAN how to behave. I’m sure the late QUEEN got tired of chastising her.”
