Meghan Markle made a lot of headlines for many different reasons when she surprised everyone by showing up to Paris Fashion Week without her husband Prince Harry.
Shortly after, rumors started floating round the internet that she was paid a substantial amount of money to attend the high fashion event held during Paris’ Fashion Week.
However, we can now put the rumors to rest because Balenciaga head designer Pierpaolo Piccioli has now set the story straight.
There Was No Fanfare To Meghan Markle’s Paris Fashion Show Arrival, Balenciaga Designer Reveals
We’re no longer talking about the awkward air kiss Meghan Markle shared with Balenciaga designer and newly appointed creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
And we’re past making fun of the gigantic white cape the Duchess stepped out with at the show – big enough to rival the Pope’s? Sure thing.
The topic we’re now on is how Meghan Markle went from being in California, USA to Paris, France, during one of its busiest weeks: Fashion Week.
At a guess, you’d say that it’s to support her pal Piccioli, but then her spokesperson’s strongly worded message kind of hinted that it wasn’t all there was to it.
Words like “worked together,” “key moments” and “world stage” were floated about, leading to some confusion, which Piccioli has chosen to set right.
“Meghan and I met some years ago, and we’ve been texting ever since,” Piccioli, 58, told The Cut on Saturday, Oct. 11’s chat. “She reached out and said she’d love to come to the show.”
“There was no strategy or big orchestration,” he added. “I didn’t tell anyone she was coming because I wanted it to stay a surprise. In fashion, real surprises are rare, and this one was beautiful.”
In contrast to his admission, Markle’s spokesperson said: “Over the years, the Duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo,” Markle’s spokesperson said. “They have worked closely together, collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage.”
“She has long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance, and tonight was no different,” the statement read. “This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.”
