Luke Bryan, country singer and judge of American Idol, was hit in the face by an object thrown from the crowd during his North Dakota State Fair appearance. While fans are outraged, he’s in good company when it comes to random attacks on musicians during live concerts.
Fans Are Outraged
The video that showed something hitting Luke quickly went viral, and many outlets reported on it. It’s not clear what was thrown, but folks who saw screenshots think it might have been a half-eaten apple. Although he carried on as if nothing had happened, that doesn’t make it right, and plenty of people on YouTube wondered, “What is wrong with these people?”
Not everyone loves the American Idol judge, but as one comment noted on Country Cast’s channel, there’s no reason to throw things. After all, if they hate the performance so badly, nobody is being forced to stay. Another upset viewer also noted:
How dare they try to ruin a great time for everyone just so they can get their few seconds of fame online? Theses people who are going out of their way to give us a good time by sharing their music . They didn’t have to but they did so stop throwing things at them and sit back enjoy the show and stop messing it up for the rest of us.
One commenter said that it was “common” in the 70s, and another one mentioned seeing someone throw something at David Lee Roth during a concert.
In Good Company
There’s actually a distressing list of performers who have had things thrown at them. Fox News mentioned “Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha, and Kelsea Ballerini” among them. However, there are more people like Luke Bryan who suffered through these often painful and scary incidents.
Ava Max took a slap in the face after a crazed fan rushed the stage. And then there was the bizarre time that Pink ended up with human ashes thrown onto her stage during a performance. More recently, in 2024, two performers also got things thrown, but in the case of Morgan Wallen, it was a soft object. Then, at the end of the year, Billie Eilish was also hit in the face.
Throwing Objects Is Roundly Condemned
While some folks suspect that alcohol might have been involved when someone hit Luke Bryan in the face, many people expressed their opinions that it’s not clever, funny, or excusable. Here are a few more reactions:
- Disgusting that some so called “fans” behave this way. Not cool.
- People need to quit acting like freaking jerks!
- This is getting way out of hand and I’ll be the one to say if you can’t be respectful stay home.
- People in the crowd should not be throwing anything on stage it’s so wrong.
