GH Spoilers: Sound Off – Is Gio The New Jason?

General Hospital spoilers reveal some fans are thinking Giovanni ‘Gio’ Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) is the new Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) — and potentially in more ways than one.

We’re seeing all sorts of similarities between the character Gio is evolving into, and the person Jason became years ago when he suffered a brain injury and lost all memory of who he was. Gio might have his memories intact, but they’ve been shattered by the truth bomb that is his adoption.

He’s still on the mend from that broken heart, and as we see him trudging through it, we’re starting to think he’s the next person in Port Charles to take on the role of everyone’s savior. Can’t you just see it?

He’s Everybody’s Friend

Gio might not be ready to build relationships with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton), or Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer), but he’s not chastising them anymore. He’s not standoffish or refusing to let them into his life.

Outside of that snafu, he’s an open book and has time for everyone. His friends mean the world to him, and he’s been polite and grateful to the Q’s since he first came to town and took up a room at their palace. If someone is in a pinch, Gio is there. We think we’ve seen this before.

GH Spoilers Spill He’s Changing the Quartermaine Future

Did everyone catch that jaw-dropper this week when Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) apologized to Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Bard (Erika Slezak)?

Not only were we not expecting to see Ronnie get that kind of justice, but we weren’t expecting to ever hear Tracy give anyone a heartfelt apology about anything.

She’s never wrong and she’ll die before she apologizes, her own son, Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), attested. Gio didn’t take credit for moving that mountain.

He was just thrilled to see it happen, and he had an air of confidence about him when Ronnie walked into Bobbie’s, like he knew his pep talk worked. Sound familiar?

A Reasonable Riot Act

Alright, if you rewind all the way back to the last Nurses’ Ball, the night that Gio’s whole life came crashing down upon him, it’s not a pretty picture.

He didn’t exactly react favorably to the news that Brook Lynn and Dante were his biological parents, and that his late mother lied to him for her entire short-lived life.

But since then, we’ve seen Gio’s anger dissipate, and his heart shine through. We’ve seen him act like the only adult in a room full of people much older than him.

We’ve seen him save those who needed saving and be the voice of reason when his family was spiraling — even if he doesn’t see them that way. Something about his character shines through as similar to the underlying nature we’ve always known to be present in Jason.

Some fans are calling it kismet, since Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Jason continue to head toward retirement and we suspect someone will have to be Jason’s right hand if (or when) he steps into Sonny’s shoes. Will it be Gio, or is he too soft?

Regardless, we think we’ve got another Jason in our midst, and that’s not so bad. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to see how this plays out.
