Finding Professor Henry ‘Hank’ Dalton (Daniel Goddard) in the trunk of her car — dead — was the last thing she was expecting to land on her plate this Thanksgiving.
On the heels of winning the mayoral election, Laura was unable to compose herself enough to address her opponents or the people of Port Charles.
Rocked to her core by that visual — and the aftermath — Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) may need to be on standby for some time to pull Laura through this.
Just because she has always maintained a close relationship with Sonny doesn’t mean she ever wanted to be this connected to the underworld he plays in. Now, she’s compromised and stuck, fighting her inner moral compass.
When her brother Martin ‘Marty’ Grey (Michael E. Knight) told her Sonny corrupts everyone he gets close to, his words struck Laura to her core. Will she be able to shake this off and move forward, or is this the beginning of the end of Laura’s reign as Mayor?
Things Come Full Circle
Throughout the election season, Laura had to combat frequent attempts to tear apart her character all because she had been close friends and had family ties with Sonny — a known crime boss.
Her position on Measure C aligned her with Sonny and his business practices, even if she felt she was choosing the lesser of two evils. Laura has never co-signed what Sonny does, but she does love him.
It’ll be interesting to see if her impression of him changes now that she finds herself wrapped up in a crime she didn’t commit but looks guilty of. It looks like everyone’s warnings — including Marty’s — about being close to Sonny are starting to ring true.
Laura’s Past is Decorative
Don’t forget that Laura has struggled immensely in the past with mental health troubles. Don’t ask us how she ended up presiding over the town as Mayor for even one term, let alone more.
Yes, we love Laura, but she has a troubled past decorated with crime at times herself. She and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) kept viewers on their toes and tuning in the same way Sonny’s crimes have for ages.
What Lies Ahead?
Laura might have washed her hands of all of that, but you wouldn’t know she ever dabbled in it with how rattled she is by being complicit with a cover-up now. Her prior mental health struggles and traumas have many fans wondering if a mental break is in the cards now.
Could we see her spiral out of control? Will Sonny and Jason have trouble reining her in and keeping their disposal of Dalton’s body under wraps if Laura thinks the only way to absolve herself of the guilt is to come clean — taking them down with her?
It looks like things are about to get interesting for the Mayor. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to see how this plays out.
