General Hospital (GH) news shows that the daytime landscape lost a legend with the passing of Anthony Geary who portrayed Luke Spencer for decades on the ABC soap.
Geary died yesterday in Amsterdam, his home base after leaving the world of acting.
The reality is that soap fans could not mention Luke without referencing Laura, as in Laura Collins, as in soap supercouple Luke and Laura.
Anthony Geary Played the Role of Luke Spencer
They were the original supercouple and their onscreen wedding caused just as many fans ditch work and school to watch it as happened with another famous 80s wedding, that of King Charles and Diana Spencer.
Genie posted a heartfelt tribute on X, writing that Geary “spoiled me for leading men for the rest of my life. I am crushed, I will miss him terribly, but I was so lucky to be his partner. Somehow, somewhere, we are connected to each other because I felt him leave last night. Good night sweet prince, good night.”
Anthony Geary Dies at 78
Francis wrote a four-part tribute to her former co-star and shared that she “felt his life end” while she was asleep last night.
Geary debuted as controversial hitman Luke Spencer on GH in 1978. Soon afterward he was paired with Genie Francis’ complicated character, Laura Webber. Fans loved their relationship and thus the Soap Supercouple phenomenon was born.
GH executive producer Frank Valentini also remembered Geary on X: “The entire #GeneralHospital family is heartbroken over the news of Tony Geary’s passing. Tony was a brilliant actor and set the bar that we continue to strive for.”
“His legacy and that of Luke Spencer’s, will live on through the generations of #GH cast members who have followed in his footsteps. We send our sincerest sympathies to his husband, Claudio, family, and friends. May he rest in peace.”

Francis detailed her otherworldly experience on X, writing “This morning I woke up and went into my husband’s arms. In my sleep, my life was flashing before me and I was afraid of death. An hour later, I received a call from Frank Valentini, he told me Tony died.”
