True crime sometimes starts with a simple flare of temper, and ahead of Christmas this year, a family tragedy unfolded in Florida that ended up in multiple deaths over which TV channel they should watch. Read on for more details.

TV Argument Ends Badly

WFLA News Channel 8 carried the news on YouTube on Tuesday night. Apparently, the dispute about what to watch on TV ended in a murder in Florida on Monday night. According to Sheriff Grady Judd, Jason and Crystal Kenney were actually watching the end of a football game. Then, Crystal apparently suggested they change the channel.

Unfortunately, that led to a massive argument, and it escalated so badly that Crystal told her young son to call 911 immediately. Sadly, it was already too late. Jason shot his wife in the head before fleeing to a nearby lake where he shot himself.

Authorities confirmed that both adults died. At the same time, a young teen, apparently a step-daughter, was severely injured by a gunshot. Currently, she’s in intensive care. Tragically, the news arrived that she begged her “daddy” not to shoot her.

A Desperate Call

Sadly, the kids witnessed the terrible event. The sheriff pointed out that the 12-year-old boy made that desperate call to the emergency services. So, police now have to figure out the last violent moments of the rage-filled domestic dispute.

Paolo Suro reporting from Tampa Bay cited the sheriff as saying, “The crime is so heinous, even his own homicide detectives were horrified.” Then reporter Ryan Arbogast, who covered the community tragedy, said:

Neighbors we spoke to here say they’re shocked, they’re appalled and they’re still at a loss for words on exactly how their street turned into a massive crime scene late last night. First comes the fire trucks, then the ambulance. Then the cops.

A Normal Family?

Additionally, the true crime that shattered the people who live in the Florida, Highland City area knew Jason Kenny as Crystal’s husband, and he was 47 years old. Meanwhile, they were shocked as the 12-year-old boy ran from the home down “Lemon Avenue.”  And then, the gunshots rang out.

Reportedly, the young girl, 13, was fortunate the cops arrived when they did, as she was “bleeding out.” Apparently a much younger child was unharmed.

The family hadn’t lived in the area for long, but were described as nice and normal. Other news that arrived indicated a drug and alcohol problem. Apparently, that came from an old note penned by Crystal to her husband.

Reactions From Viewers

Those who watched the true crime news unfold felt shocked, horrified, and very sad. One of them wrote in the comments, “Shooting someone over a TV channel…. This world is dying…”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:

  • Wow! Over a football game. People are going crazy.
  • May god be these children and watch over them. They will need all the support, love and healing they can get. No child should ever have to be in a situation like this.
  • I get the feeling it wasn’t a great home life prior to this incident.

Apparently, it might not have been a perfect life in the home, but there were no prior records of violence by Jason Kenney.
