David Roach is a musician who plays in a rock band known as Junkyard. He might not be universally known, but he has a large following of diehard aficionados. Recently, his simple cough turned out to be aggressive cancer, and the band and his family are looking for some help.
Who Is Junkyard?
Junkyard is a hard rock band with punk and hardcore roots that assembled in Los Angeles in 1987. David Roach, the founder and frontman, is real and rough, like from the olden days. As Mark Deming said on Allmusic:
“They formed with a bunch of like-minded acts who were tired of the L.A. hair metal scene and the pay-to-play gigs that had come to dominate many Hollywood venues. Playing smaller, more artist-friendly clubs like Raji’s, White Trash a Go-Go, and Club Lingerie, Junkyard opted for a rougher sound and more dangerous image, suggesting a handful of bikers who somehow learned to play instruments.”
That just about sums up the band, who are now busy doing concerts to fundraise for their stricken founder.
The Devastating Diagnosis
Imagine that you have a cough and a bit of fever, so you go and visit your medical professional, who tells you that an antibiotic and a few vitamins can’t fix you. Instead, you have aggressive cancer. How devastating that must feel. Well, that’s what happened to David Roach.
The band posted about it on Facebook, and there, his fiancée Jennifer described what’s going on.
She said that David was taken to the ER after struggling with a fever and a persistent cough. Multiple scans were done, and the results, she said, were life-changing.
“We received results that have completely shattered our world,” she wrote. “It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.”
A Very Difficult Time
Jennifer made it clear that the couple is still trying to come to terms with the diagnosis. She also explained that they are not ready to share everything just yet: “As everything is still developing, we will not be providing any in-depth details.”
Despite the difficult news, Jennifer praised David’s courage and strength. “David is showing such incredible strength and resilience, and even in the midst of this darkness, he’s still managing to keep his sense of humor. It’s a reminder of how amazing he is.”
She added that although the road ahead will be tough, David remains hopeful. “David made it clear he is not giving up hope and we’re going to need all of your love and prayers.”
Thanks & A Fundraiser
Jennifer also thanked fans for their overwhelming kindness during this uncertain time. “We want to thank you all for the overwhelming support and love you’ve shown us during this incredibly challenging time. We wish we could respond to each of you, but honestly, there are no words right now.”
She concluded the post with a message asking for continued support: “No matter what higher power you believe in we ask you please keep David in your prayers and thoughts. We will update at a later date as we take this one step at a time.”
The band also notified their fans that there is a GoFundMe to help pay for the care of David. If you want to donate, you will find it on this link here. So far $28K has been raised to help with his care.

- Sorry to see you going thru that brother. Had some good chats thru the years and after 5 years of my son more in the hospital than out i have too much awareness of the suck factor you’re experiencing. Praying for you my friend.
