Brooke was reckless, but so was Nick Marone (Jack Wagner). His rushed attempt to woo Lang’s character as part of an engagement effort resulted in disaster.
The boat Nick captained had a faulty steering wheel, which caused him to nearly crash into another vessel. He avoided that impact but fell and hit his head, while Brooke was thrown overboard.
Eight Plus Eight Equals Disorder
Brooke’s choice to lounge on the back of the boat, without any restraint, was reckless. Ironically, that’s why Ridge broke from her in the past and most recently.
His choice to commit to Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) earlier this year and to get engaged happened for a specific reason. He saw Taylor as the anti-Brooke.
No clichéd safe space landing is necessary. Ridge simply felt that Brooke had a pattern of chaos and wouldn’t veer from it. Sure enough, she didn’t.
Being married to Brooke eight times but not currently being together means that eight breakups have happened. Yet, Ridge is now claiming that he’s going to make everything right with her. Why?
Caught Up In The Magic Of Italy
Those scenes in Italy, on this specific location shoot, are so memorably marvelous. Devoted fans know they’ll be part of a retrospective package, as part of both characters’ memories, indefinitely, and that’s okay.
But what’s not okay is Ridge forgetting that he made a promise to Taylor that now seems in imminent danger of breaking her heart. Taylor’s broken heart syndrome was no joke, as Brooke believed.
Budig’s character nearly died because of the repeated emotional damage Ridge inflicted on her. Sure, he didn’t intend to harm Taylor, but that’s the effect he had and surely will again if he, in fact, again returns to Brooke.
Brooke Logan Wins Again
Brooke has long believed in destiny. However, she had another viable option when Nick learned that Ridge was with Taylor.
Wagner’s return to the cast was cheered by longtime viewers and all fans of this genre. His B&B character is pursuing a believable goal. He and Brooke have a son and were once in love.
Ridge is rightfully caught up in the moment. Giving someone, especially a true love, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation naturally elevated his emotions.
Taylor’s absence also enabled him to be trailing Brooke in Italy. Budig’s character would have done her best to keep his focus on business and her.
If she only had attended Forrester Creations’ summer splash instead. But Taylor put her trust in Ridge, which is a decision she may regret indefinitely.
Yet, Nick’s determination to quite literally steer her away from a belief that Ridge is her destiny appears to have failed. This is a solid summer reversal story, with plenty of dramatic fallout ahead.
