Just because someone serves their country, doesn’t mean they don’t get involved in true crime, and on Tuesday this week, the news arrived that Army Major Blaine McGraw, a gynecologist, faces multiple charges. Allegedly, he took inappropriate videos of dozens of patients. Read on for more details.

Multiple Charges

The officer stationed at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Texas faces charges of illegal recordings. CBS News reported that he allegedly faces five other charges, including behavior “unbecoming,” and charges within the army’s laws of disobeying a senior officer among others.

The charges relate to some serious incidents involving over 60 people. Allegedly, he secretly filmed many women who went for their examinations. While some of them happened at Fort Hood and Darnall Army Medical Center, others allegedly took place at a private home. Most of them reportedly happened between January and about October this year.

Caught In The Act

Blaine McGraw was at an Army Medical Center in Hawaii from 2019 to 2023, before he went to work at the Darnall Army Medical Center, Texas. There, CNN reports, a patient made a hullabaloo when he noticed the phone recorder was on while his wife was examined. That led to a flurry of investigative work, and he ended up in the Bell County Jail. Apparently, he’d been on limited freedom, but violated the rules.

Notably, the man who reported the incident served in places like “Afghanistan,” so he seemed more alert than many others. Once he noticed the recording, a report to other folks didn’t get the response he hoped for. So, he lost it and started yelling about the incident. That got the attention of people very quickly.

Photos & Videos Found

Investigations found a huge number of photos and videos, and they showed that the invasion of privacy had been going on for years. Naturally, many of the women wanted their names kept out of it. Notably, the complainant is known as Jane Doe. Many people didn’t know they were filmed, or that they were the victims of a true crime until the army reached out to them.

There’s no doubt that the possible extent of these alleged crimes by Major Blaine McGraw is rather large. One of the victims’ attorneys spoke about it. He claimed that the potential harm reached so far that it’s probably a first in American military history. Notably, it potentially covers two big military bases and thousands of soldiers and their spouses.

The Army set up a support system for the victims. Various advocacy groups offer counseling as well. The accused person started out in the military as an infantry soldier, but later became a physician assistant with “the 101st Airborne.” After that, he made a switch to medicine and did his training at Tripler. Currently, he’s behind bars awaiting pre-trial hearings.

Viewers Respond

When CNN updated and claimed that there are definitely charges coming down the line, many people responded. One of them wrote, “This is why I never go to male OB-GYNs. I don’t trust them. I hope these women get justice.”

Here are a few more reactions from the discussion:

  • I can not understand why a Gyno would video the basis of his work when he’s dealing with women’s parts all day, surely you would get bored of the amount you see? To then video to well I am guessing to please himself to is beyond sick.
  • OMG how many other DOCTORS[?]
  • Who put him in that position[?]
