Simon Cowell shot to fame in the States over twenty years ago when he debuted on the first season of American Idol as a music industry vet and judge.
Frankly, we’re shocked Kelly Clarkson didn’t need therapy after her time on the singing competition. Simon is kinda scary…
Simon made his American TV debut on American Idol in 2002, but he had already been around the singing show block in the UK and was a judge on X-Factor. American Idol was actually created because of X-Factor’s success in Europe, Cowell brought his brutally honest judging style to the states with him.
Simon Cowell Over The Years
Over the decades on American Idol, Simon Cowell made more aspiring singers cry than we care to count.
While other celeb judges tried to comfort the singers and let them down easily, Simon was the exact opposite. If you received positive feedback from THE Simon Cowell, your career was as good as gold though.
After appearing on American Idol, Cowell went on to be a judge on America’s Got Talent and the show’s respective spinoffs. Like American Idol, AGT was also created after Simon Cowell’s series Britain’s Got Talent took off in the UK.
The Scariest Judge On TV
Since 2002 Simon Cowell has made hundreds of people cry on national television. Is the judge that scary in real life or is it all an act?
Recently the America’s Got Talent judge sat down with Rolling Stones Magazine and discussed the reputation he has for being so harsh on the reality TV competitions.
Cowell explained, “Look, every one of us is gonna say at one point, God, I shouldn’t have said that. But it’s kinder to be really clear to someone who has zero talent.”
Simon Cowell Talks Real Life Criticism
The TV judge added, “If Eric, my son, said, ‘Dad, I want to be a singer,’ and he sang to me and every note was outta tune, I would say, ‘Darling, you can’t sing.’ I wouldn’t lie to him,” he said.
Have you been a fan of Simon over the years on Idol and AGT? Do you think that he is too harsh, or honesty is always the best policy?
