Li has found out that Stefan could be a threat to his happiness with Gabi. Li intends on keeping Gabi and Stefan apart.

Gabi had been married to Stefan. Gabi believes that Stefan is dead. Gabi was devastated when she lost Stefan. Gabi had hoped that Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) would be able to find a way to bring Stefan back to life. Dr. Rolf informed Gabi that Stefan was could not be revived. Gabi was surprised to find out that Stefan had a twin brother Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash). Gabi started to date Jake and was happy with him for a time. Gabi ended her relationship with Jake. Gabi began to date Li.

Gabi has not been able to make a long-term commitment to Li. Li wants Gabi to put her past with Stefan behind her. Gabi wears Stefan’s wedding ring on a chain around her neck. Li was shocked to find out that Stefan is alive. Li has been helping Dr. Rolf to continue his research while he was in jail. Dr. Rolf was able to get out of jail with Kristen DiMera’s (Stacy Haiduk) help. Kristen was able to secure a pardon from Governor Mitchell (Mark Bramhall) for her and Dr. Rolf. Kristen found out that Jake had been shot and killed. Kristen hoped that Dr. Rolf could save Jake but he could not. Kristen was stunned to find out that Dr. Rolf had been keeping Stefan alive.

Dr. Rolf believed that he could save Stefan because of Jake. Stefan needed to have a heart transplant because his heart had been given to Julie Olson Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). Dr. Rolf was able to successfully transplant Jake’s heart to Stefan. Li is upset that Stefan is alive and could find a way to get to Gabi. Li wants Dr. Rolf to keep Stefan from being revived completely. Stefan may be able to wake up without Dr. Rolf’s help. Stefan will want to find a way to get to Gabi to let her know that he is alive.
