Sophie Countess Of Wessex Angered The Queen Mum With This Wedding Decree

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex has been said to be a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, but there is one royal who wasn’t impressed with her wedding planning.

Sophie married Prince Edward in an afternoon event at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. They wanted the wedding to be fuss-free, as much as any royal wedding could be, and went in for a more casual than normal dress code. Except that one senior member of the royal family wasn’t on board with the relaxed dress expectations.

Who Did Not Want To Wear Casual Wear For An Important Royal Wedding?

Royal writer-author Angela Levin spoke in the documentary, Edward & Sophie: The Reluctant Royals? about who was not in love with Sophie’s dress code.

Levin explained, “The wedding took place in the afternoon and Sophie and Edward didn’t want to give people the problem of changing their clothes from the ceremonies to the evening celebrations. And she said, ‘please, there’s no need to wear hats.’”

“But the Queen Mother wasn’t going to be told what to do. She loved wearing hats.”

It seems that the beloved Queen Mother loved her fashion game and was known to pay great attention to details all the way up until her death in 2002.

Her Majesty Wanted Sophie To have A Pain Free Introduction To The Monarchy

According to royal author Ingrid Seward, “The Queen decided that she wanted Sophie to understand what marrying into the Royal Family meant. What she did, which had never happened before, is give Sophie a pass to Buckingham Palace. It’s like being given the keys to the front door.”

Apparently the Queen was keen to avoid Sophie falling victim to the trail of failed royal marriages that were the reality for Charles, Andrew, and Anne. Because of this, she agreed to be more lenient with Sophie in terms of helping her to fully understand the routines she would face in joining the Royal Family.

Perhaps, as a result, Sophie has seemed to blend in well with the family, and she has been seen as a selfless example of duty in the past few months.

After the graceless exit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this year, Sophie has emerged to fill in the void left by them. In one instance Sophie and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge together paid tribute to nurses from across the globe to commemorate International Nurses Day.
