Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Is The “Real” Stefano Still Out There – Is He Aware Of Steve’s New Role?

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers indicate Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) will believe himself to be Stefano DiMera (the late Joe Mascolo) for a while longer, but that leaves questions about the whereabouts of the original Stefano. As viewers know, Stefano had been in poor physical condition when last seen. Cancer and diabetes had made the once strong man much weaker. Did he succumb to these illnesses? Or is he still out there?

It seems highly unlikely that Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay) would implant Stefano’s memories in anyone else if the real Stefano were still alive. Rolf had an unwavering loyalty to Stefano and the very idea that Stefano would have to sit on the sidelines while an imposter takes his place seems improbably. But if Stefano knew he was dying, he would want to live on in some form, after he died. He is the Phoenix after, and this would definitely be a rebirth.

But it’s also possible, however unlikely, that Rolf performed the memory transfer even though Stefano is alive out there. But how would he feel about someone going around Salem, believing himself to be the real deal? Stefano had a huge ego and would most likely not another version of himself running around while he was still alive. This “imposter” would be able to do things that Stefano could not, like stalk Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall).

It’s easy to imagine a scenario where Stefano wanted his imposter dead. This might very make Steve as Stefano a target if someone is sent to kill him. There a different ways this story could go, depending on what has actually happened to the real Stefano. And although the real Stefano will never be on screen again, due to respect for Joe Mascolo, we will likely find out at some point exactly what happened.
