The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Jack Can’t Catch A Break – Family Ties Trimmed as Jabot Slips Away

Jack (Peter Bergman) is only human on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He’s faced far too much stress as Dina’s (Marla Adams) serious health issue and Jabot’s daily grind have combined to take a toll on the elder Abbott sibling.

There were some encouraging signs a few months ago. Jack didn’t hesitate to enter The Underground and save his brother from seeming death. Making up with Billy (Jason Thompson) was good for Jack’s soul. But then he regressed weeks later to well-worn patterns of self-destructive behavior.

Dina’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis is something that Jack appeared to respond well to, when actually he was spinning inside. Opting to become Dina’s main caregiver didn’t mesh with his reaction plan to run Jabot from home. He’s since hired a service to help Madame Mergeron, which also allows him to return to the office full-time.

A fierce fight with Ashley (Eileen Davidson) played out during Christmas. Jack lost a confidence vote (5-4) that his sister called upon Jabot’s board to make. No confidence votes by Billy and Kyle (most recently played by Lachlan Buchanan) were particularly hurtful.

The battle with Ashley created other Abbott victims. Traci (Beth Maitland) bore the brunt of her sister’s wrath and Billy received Jack’s venom at Chancellor Park, including a low bow comment about Delia’s (Sophie Pollono) death.

Jack’s brother and son’s actions, along with Ashley’s humbug behavior reignited feelings of family betrayal. Isolation is good for no man.

Recently, Jack believed that he could sweet-talk Jill (Jess Walton) into selling Chancellor Industries to him as part of a plan to push Jabot forward. After a few rounds of negotiations, Jack reached agreement with Jill to buy Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) company.

However, Jill didn’t know that Jack and Ashley were vying for control of Jabot. So she sent Billy to the Abbott home with a message; The deal was off.

While Dina’s health has been Jack’s focus, his own well-being is surely being jeopardized by ongoing negativity. Mr. Abbott must be careful because his return to the office could easily result in additional stress and his own need for medical care.
