‘The Young and the Restless’ POLL: Will You Miss Dr. Neville? VOTE!

“The Young and the Restless” viewers recently said goodbye to Dr. Neville and his portrayer, Michael E. Knight. Many Y&R fans were sad to see him go. Knight was a solid addition to the cast and Dr. Neville was certainly a useful character.

Ashley (Eileen Davidson) had been without a love interest for quite some time before Dr. Neville arrived. They let her pine for Stitch (Sean Carrigan) for a while, but Abby (Melissa Ordway) was ultimately the one he ended up with. Dr. Neville came along and Ashley finally found a great match.

In the months since Dr. Neville’s debut, they let us get to know him a little better. “The Young and the Restless” made us understand why Dr. Neville was so devoted to his strange protocol. Dr. Neville couldn’t save his mother when she slipped into a coma, so he devoted his life to saving everyone else.

Although Dr. Neville was somewhat arrogant at times, it seems like it was more about proving himself. It was his tactic of battling the naysayers and giving his patients a fighting chance for survival. When Ashley was convinced she was going to die, Dr. Neville wouldn’t let her give up hope.

As Dr. Neville cared for Ashley, we watched a softer side of his character emerge. Knight showed us Dr. Neville’s gentle sweetness. The quirky doc was also strong and mature. That made him the perfect match for stubborn, level-headed Ashley. They shared a real sense of determination, but there was an underlying need to nurture.

Unfortunately, The Young and the Restless decided to end Dr. Neville’s run before his relationship could really bloom. They did a nice job with the slow buildup from coworkers to something more. We just never got to see the true payoff.

At least Ashley gave Dr. Neville a parting kiss. That was a touching scene to remember him by. However, there was more to explore with Dr. Neville. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see where things would have gone with Dr. Neville’s personal and professional life.

Of course, we shouldn’t give up hope for a return down the road. Who knows? Someone else will surely land in a coma someday. He or she might desperately need Dr. Neville’s help. Regardless, many “Young and the Restless” viewers enjoyed Dr. Neville’s stint on Y&R.
