'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Dylan Resembles Jason Morgan – Y&R Stealing Page From General Hospital Handbook?Steve Burton’s (Dylan) final scenes on ‘The Young and the Restless’ are playing out this month. Fans of the genre likely recognized that his character’s undercover persona (Derek Young) evoked the iconic Jason Morgan he embodied for over two decades on ABC’s beloved steamer ‘General Hospital’.

What an interesting situation to write Burton’s character into as he wrapped his run on Y&R.

Dylan became involved in dangerous liaisons with Alex Dettmer (Jess Webb) this week in Miami. He, like the Genoa City Police Department, believed that Alex was a man. But Webb’s debut sunk that assumption completely.

He met with the person who’s believed to be Luther Fisk’s (no actor has yet been confirmed as playing this part) main lieutenant in a large drug operation that is based in Florida. Whether Alex connects him to Luther, as Dylan hopes, is yet to be revealed.

It was clear from the jump that Alex was attracted to Derek, or appeared to be so in order to conduct her own version of a background check. Subsequent scenes in Derek’s hotel suite showed Alex uncovering a listening device that was planted underneath a table lamp.

Choosing to accept an assignment that is fraught with risk is something Dylan felt he had to do. The Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) reveal dramatically impacted his mental state. Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) subsequent choice to maintain a separation between the boy who he believes is his son and Dylan caused further pain.

Paul (Doug Davidson) and Christine (Lauralee Bell) were conflicted about allowing Dylan to accept this particular assignment. But they relented after he convinced them that he would be okay. Whether their joint decision proves to be fateful will soon be known.

Burton became famous for his portrayal of Morgan, who evolved into an enforcer for the Corinthos crime family. Dylan clearly appears to have represented Burton’s choice to play against type on Y&R from 2013 through January of this new year. So, Dylan’s assumption of Derek’s identity surely could be seen as a wink to the audience and a thoughtful way to end the actor’s current association with this CBS soap.
