The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cane Plays Bad Guy – Billy Setup for Fall

What happened to Cane (Daniel Goddard) on ‘The Young and the Restless’? This former good guy has gone rogue, bribing a videographer to make Billy (Jason Thompson) look like a reckless fool. Mr. Ashby’s scheme seems certain to backfire as well.

Cane paid a camera man to document Billy’s behind-the-scenes moves during Brash and Sassy’s time in Hollywood.

But Cane wasn’t expecting to catch him doing anything wrong. Instead the increasingly unhinged Aussie wanted to create a false scenario where it looked like Billy was encouraging two Professional Hockey League players to gamble.

Humiliation isn’t the main goal. Instead, Cane wants to force Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) hand. His intent is to force Billy out of the company by first boxing him in.

This bizarre effort was born through Cane’s misguided judgment. After downing 10 sake bombs a few months ago, he and Juliet (Laur Allen) had an unexpected rendezvous in his Tokyo room. Cane pushed blame onto Juliet for that incident until shifting his glare to ‘Billy-boy’ when he returned to Genoa City.

For his part, Billy hasn’t been in Cane’s face for awhile. They’ve literally slugged it out in the past, including a memorable jaw-punching bout in the Chancellor Mansion living room last year. But Billy’s been focused on Victoria, his children and now, Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) in recent months.

Y&R is clearly intending to spice up the Cane character by having him go off the rails. The effort has been developed over time, but does have a slight manufactured feel. The climax to the arc Goddard’s character has been riding is fast approaching. So that run and subsequent fallout will prove whether the writer’s room brainstorm was worth it.

‘Lane’ is about to face a course-change when the Ashby twins are SORAS’d to late-teenage status. That factor is likely to be intertwined with Cane’s devolution. How Lily (Christel Khalil) handles the Juliet revelation, which may well drop somewhere on, or around the aforementioned climax will likely be dramatic.

Might this long-standing marriage end again, or possibly forever? Cane will only have himself to blame if that happens, though this version of Goddard’s character will surely blame others.
