Soap Opera Ratings for July 31 to August 4: Y&R Drastically Drops in Ratings, DOOL and GH Up

Soap Opera Ratings for July 31 to August 4: Y&R Drastically Drops in Ratings, DOOL and GH UpThe soap opera ratings for the week of July 31 through August 4, 2107 have been reported by Soap Opera Network. While ABC’s General Hospital (GH) and NBC’s Days of Our Lives (DOOL) rose in total viewership, both CBS’ soap operas The Young and the Restless (Y&R) and The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) have taken a tumble.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Women viewers between the ages of 18-49 years of age has risen by 37,000 as DOOL reaches 319,000 viewers; while their all around viewership went up by 78,000 compared to last week reaching a total of 2,054,000 viewers. It just might be the storyline of Abigail (Marci Miller) shoving her ex-husband and love of her life, Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) out of the way of a speeding car, gravely injuring herself that brought so many fans back to the show.

GENERAL HOSPITAL

General Hospital seems to be on the top of the list again when it comes to growth in total viewership. The ABC daytime drama drew in 90,000 people bringing in their total viewers to 2,526,000; although they remained the same at 379,000, among women viewers between 18-49. One has to wonder if the storyline of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) being shot by Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco) and shoved into a pit in an abandoned warehouse did the trick, or was it the ghostly visit from Stone Cates (Michael Sutton) that peaked fans’ interest?

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

Although B&B has 3,321,000 total viewers, they seem to be slipping a little bit losing 27,000 viewers this week. In women ages 18-49, the CBS soap opera has lose about 12,000 viewers from the previous week. It is a bit surprising since Linsey Godfrey returned to the role of Caroline Spencer, but maybe fans are just not pleased that she is trying to interfere with the newfound couple Thomas Forrester (Pierson Fode) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope); or it could simply be that no one liked how Dollar Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) continues to toy with people’s lives and misled everyone with the Spencer Summit Fashion Showdown.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

The Y&R seems to have taken the biggest hit of all the soap operas this week; even though it has 4,234,000 viewers, compared to the previous week it lost 163,000 total viewers. The CBS daytime drama has hit a new low when it lost 46,000 viewers among women ages 18-49. There are several factors as to why people turned away from the series; Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) have hit rock bottom when she discovered he stole the children’s education fund to pay off Jesse. Sharon McAvoy (Sharon Case) has been playing detective when it comes to young girl named Crystal who calls the crisis line and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) seems to have fallen back into Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) arms.

How do you feel about all the storylines that happened this week and how would you rate each daytime soap opera?
