‘General Hospital’ News: 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards – Why Did These 5 GH Characters Get Overlooked?

'General Hospital' News: 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards - Why Did These 5 GH Characters Get Overlooked?Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations were officially announced this week and, “General Hospital,” actors were well represented among the 44th annual awards list. Although there are plenty of GH actors in the running for the prestigious award, there were some noticeable snubs!

Outstanding Lead Actor pre-nominees:

Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos)

Roger Howarth (Franco)

Where’s William DeVry’s (Julian Jerome) name? Benard and Howarth played their hearts out in 2016, but DeVry also had a meaty storyline. He’s currently recuperating from a nasty car accident after trying to murder his wife. In the midst of his domestic woes, he’s also trying to keep his unhinged sister Olivia from wiping him off the face of the planet. It’s an understatement to say that DeVry played a range of emotions well during a contentious year.

Outstanding Lead Actress pre-nominees:

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis)

Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos)

Hughes is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, but that’s a joke. She’s a headliner and deserves to be recognized as one! Both Grahn and Wright deserve their pre-nominations. But Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) brought it for months, playing a traumatized woman tortured by past memories. Her discovery of the true root of her conflict came this year, but in 2016 she wowed us weekly with her performance as a strong woman struggling to keep her vulnerability at bay.

Outstanding Supporting Actress pre-nominees:

Finola Hughes (Anna Devane)

Michelle Stafford (Nina Reeves)

Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) is a perennial fan favorite, and her name should be on the list along with Hughes and Stafford. She brilliantly showed us her range when she played out of character for most of 2016. Fans delight in watching wicked Tracy; remember when she let her dad Edward writhe around on the floor and withheld his heart medicine? That was classic mean and evil, but last year she played the polar opposite when she went out of her way to help dying Finn (Michael Easton). Who else could come full circle on a soap and show off the acting chops like Elliot?

Vinessa Antoine (Jordan) needs to be on the list as well. She showed that she can do it all: play a tough cop, a loving mom, and a conflicted girlfriend. Is there a role she didn’t portray well on GH last year?

Outstanding Supporting Actor pre-nominees:

Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos)

Jeffrey Vincent Parise (Carlos Rivera/Dr. Joe Rivera)

Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri)

Speaking of the dying Dr. Finn, his portrayer Michael Easton should be nominated as well. He played death-and-dying with superb clarity as he fought valiantly for his own life, and the life of his lady love. What’s a guy got to do for some recognition?

Do the actors themselves submit their work? ( I have no idea about how awards work). If so then I guess they decide if they think they had meaty enough stories and where they think they belong ?

Laura Wright is my all time favorite (since her days on The City way back… but Nancy Lee Grahn’s performance this last year was beyond amazing.
