Emmerdale Dominates The British Soap Awards 2017 – WINNER LIST HERE!

Emmerdale Dominates The British Soap Awards 2017 - WINNER LIST HERE!Popular sudser “Emmerdale,” was the big winner at Saturday night’s British Soap Awards, taking home six prizes including honors for Best Soap, Best Actor, and Best Storyline. Shockingly, hit show “EastEnders,” won no public-voted for awards; it’s major win came in the form of The Tony Warren Award for scriptwriter Gilliam Richmond.

It was a poignant win for “Emmerdale’s” John Middleton who won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of dementia victim Ashley Thomas. The veteran actor led the cast for 20 years before departing the soap following the death of his character.

Receiving multiple honors, the handsome star was the night’s sentimental favorite as he collected awards for Best Storyline for Ashley’s Dementia, Best Male Dramatic Performance and Best Single Episode for Ashley’s Point Of View.

Keeping in line with the evening’s most awarded plotline, Charlotte Bellamy, who plays Middleton’s on-screen wife Laurel, won the Best Actress award.

“Emmerdale’s” Best Soap win marked back to back victories for the ITV show, with last year’s win ending an 18 year drought in that category. Is it the show to beat in 2018?

“Coronation Street’s,” Kym Marsh scooped up the Best Female Dramatic Performance award for her sensitive portrayal of Michelle Connor, who experienced a late-term miscarriage on the show.

Marsh has openly discussed her own miscarriage, and much has been written about her bravery in playing out the emotional storyline. According to The Sun, the actress dedicated her win to her late son Archie.

“It was perhaps the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do in my career,” she said last night, “It took us back to places that we never really wanted to go to again but we did because we wanted to tell the story … I’m so proud of the show for telling the story in its entirety, reaching out to people and breaking the silence and the taboo.”

Other winners on the night included Lucy-Jo Hudson who plays Rhiannon Davis on “Doctors,” for the Villain of the Year award, and “Hollyoaks” star Nick Pickard who scooped up the Outstanding Achievement award.

The annual British Soap Awards ceremony began in 1999 and this year’s ceremony, held at The Lowry in Manchester, will be broadcast on Tuesday June 6.
