‘The Young and The Restless’ (Y&R) POLL: Can There Be Redemption for Victor Newman?

'The Young and The Restless' (Y&R) POLL: Can There Be Redemption for Victor Newman? Both Victor Newman and his portrayer, Eric Braeden, quickly became a hit with fans, upon their debut on “The Young and the Restless”. Braeden’s movie-star looks, on-screen magnetism, and formidable acting skills drew them in even as Victor did seemingly unforgivable things. Victor Newman became the central figure on “Y&R” and the head of one of Genoa City’s core families, the Newmans.

Over the next thirty-two years, Victor Newman committed adultery, stole Jabot, the cornerstone of his rival’s family company out from under them, punished his adult children for disobeying him by demoting them at Newman Enterprises and putting an unrelated man in charge of them, even “threw an ex-wife from an ambulance,” according to TV Guide’s Michael Logan. And this list only scratches the surface of his wrongdoings.

But he has always retained his humanity, his need for his family’s love, the desire to be in a loving relationship, perhaps this is one reason fans and family have stood by him over the years. And Braeden has played the character carefully, never allowing him to become one-sided or irredeemable.

His last two acts of cruelty, though, may have been the last two straws that broke the camel’s back. First he had Jack (Peter Bergman) kidnapped and hired a look-alike, Marco Annicelli to impersonate him, leading to a host of immoral situations. Then he stole a business deal from under his comatose ex son-in-law, Billy Abbott, (Jason Thompson) using Billy’s condition to his business advantage.

Perhaps for the first time, his family is, en masse, holding him accountable for his actions, as they become aware of the Marco Annicelli debacle. Victor may face prison time, but worse, he may face the rejection of his loved ones. Both may very well cause Victor to objectively analyze his own behavior, to for the first time truly look at himself and who he has become.

Hopefully, when he does this he will remember that his family values him very much, just as Braeden will remember that Victor’s many fans want him to stay Victor even as he suffers the consequences for his unmitigated ruthlessness of late. Who will Victor Newman be, when all is said and done?  Will there be redemption for Victor?  Will his family forgive him?  Vote in the POLL and share your comments below.

TGVN has went too far and needs punished harshly. Sent him away forever he cannot be redeemed.

Thank you for reading and commenting, Tess. I agree that he went too far. But I still love him. I want him to grow and change from this. And be more three-dimensional once he does, instead of just all bad.

I believe that he will take advantage of FBI desire to take the drug lords down. I just hope he will take his second chance seriously & be the Head of the Family he believes he is.

Nikki still loves him. I want her to shine & show him he can change & let go to his children. He can be Chairman of Board. There can still be plenty of drama with the Kids competing for CEO. What about his reputation -living in GC may not be easy post trial. Can’t wait to see how the writers will play that out & Eric Braeden performs.

If they can redeem Adam, I think they can redeem anyone, if the writers are clever enough. With Adam, they did it slowly and methodically. I NEVER thought I’d be sympathizing with him after the things he did to Ashley. I do have to laugh, though, at how Victor thinks his family would be nothing without him, especially Nicki. She was a stripper. She had a 50/50 chance of finding another rich man! Besides, his family has been TRYING to live without him for years, especially Nick. It does anger me, though, that his family gets upset when he uses controlling underhanded tactics with them, but the minute they need something, they run to him and ask him to use whatever methods he has at hand to help them. One or the other, kids. Can’t have it both ways.

In my opinion this Victor is getting old I think they should redeem him and get another villian. I like Victor but think this time he has gone tooooooooo far. I have read that he will not play the redeem role so I see him finding someone else to blackmail and have in his back pocket since he don’t have the Judge anymore to blackmail. His kids should know he will not like anyone that can stand toe to toe with him but they always forgive him. Maybe this time he will love his family more than Newman since he is always saying he is doing this to protect his family this one time he really need to prove that. I know Nick Vicky Abby and Adam they will turn on him in a flash and when in trouble they all know that Victor will pay someone off to keep them out of trouble and you are right Rebecca Five they can’t have it both ways and at this point neither can Victor. I hope the writers really see this is getting old.
