‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Shylan Living in Limbo – Dylan Has To Go

‘Shylan’ is trapped in limbo on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Dylan (Steve Burton) is standing by his wife, for the moment. Considering what he’s been put through and Burton’s coming departure from the show, it’s seems highly unlikely that Dylan will remain with Sharon (Sharon Case) for much longer.

Due to Sharon’s appearance on GC Buzz, the Christian (Jamie and Alister Tobias) reveal became worldwide news. Legal fallout seems fleeting, but personal destruction is already taking place. Of course, this is why Sharon wanted to indefinitely pretend that Sully was her child and Dylan’s son. Now that Mr. McAvoy knows his wife lied to him there’s little hope that ‘Shylan’ can survive.

This super couple was always workable, but never electric. Dylan and Sharon settled for each other during their middle-aged years. Yes, they are fond of one another. But they were never deeply in love. Their choice to marry was an honest choice, but it’s also one that can be (and now has been) revisited because there was no deep bond.

Some Y&R fans may disagree with the above assessment, but it’s at least arguable. Burton and Case are fine actors and they did the best they could with the storylines they were tasked to work within. But how many Genoa City devotees can cite a specific moment, or moments, when ‘Shylan’ revealed itself as a truly dynamic duo?

Even if the Dylan character is recast, it seems past time for Sharon to written into an entirely new arc. One where she’s not mentally anguished, targeted by a deranged individual, or has yet another child stolen from her. Faith’s (currently played by Alyvia Alyn Lind) abduction was shown first, but Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) steal was revealed retroactively. That invented piece of fiction meant that Sharon was the victim of two baby swaps in one lifetime! Too much soap doesn’t taste good.

Burton’s final scenes are scheduled to be filmed next month. His voluntary departure isn’t cheered by this scribe, as the Dylan character was likable and had room to grow moving forward. Assuming another actor doesn’t assume his role, Sharon will cut ties with her immediate past as soon as mid- to late-January. By that time she and her ex-husband will almost assuredly be living separate lives.
