‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Jack’s Foolish Decisions Continue – Where Does He Go From Here?

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Jack's Foolish Decisions Continue – Where Does He Go From Here? When did Jack (Peter Bergman) become a know-nothing on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Ever since the Marco (also Bergman) arc played out Jack has become a bumbling fool. Now, as he recklessly pursues vengeance against Victor (Eric Braeden), even Billy (Jason Thompson) seems more savvy. But, the assistance Jack received from his detested sibling, via the tip about Victor setting him up, still might not prevent ‘Smilin’ Jack’ from acting intelligently.

Viewers are asking themselves why Y&R has written Jack into buffoon town. Bergman is a solid actor who’s handled numerous extended storylines through the years, where he’s demonstrated the type of range that is expected from a veteran daytime actor. Yet, the post-Marco period has caused this character to become a stereotype.

Always placing Jack beneath Victor isn’t realistic, as the ‘Black Knight’ is clearly the more accomplished businessman. However, the ‘Moustache’ been allowed to make many mistakes and then rebound. Consideration reveals that Y&R has turned Jack into some type of needy male. Ah, maybe that’s the point?

Western cultural shifts toward a more balanced society are reflected, in part, through what the entertainment industry spits out. Then, not-so-hidden agendas pound ideological messages in various ways. So, the ongoing leveling of the corporate playing field would honestly put both men and women in equal situations. Sometimes winning, sometimes realizing neutral results and other times losing the monied game.

Jack didn’t suddenly become stupid. Yet, that’s what the loops within his personal and professional life have shouted for the past year-plus. And, enough is enough. Here’s hoping that incoming head writer and Y&R alum (Sally Sussman) and story consultant (Kay Alden, also a Y&R alum) will follow the playbook of papa Bill Bell. If they and executive producer Mal Young refocus the scripts, this show will give it’s longtime viewers what they’ve been missing – believable stories.

This process needn’t take long either. Make the words coming out of Jack’s mouth reflect who he is at heart. Yes, restore this character.
