‘The Young and The Restless’ News: Victoria Rowell Twitter War – Still Fighting CBS To Get Drucilla Winters Back On Y&R

“Young and the Restless” has its own real life drama going on behind the scenes; Victoria Rowell sued CBS and Sonny for refusal to rehire her earlier in the year. She claimed that the refusal to rehire her violated her civil rights. She stated that CBS/Sony didn’t hire enough African Americans on the set and referred to the CBS/Sony executives as racist.

Victoria Rowell portrayed Drucilla Winters from 1990-2007. Drucilla Winters was married to Neil Winters (Kristoff St John) and the mother to Devon (Bryton James) and Lily Ashby (Christel Khalil). She was presumed dead after she fell off a cliff during a photo shoot. Since her departure from the show, fans speculated that the show would recast her role. At the present time, she is not eligible for rehire and the network is not able to recast the role due to the dispute with Ms. Rowell.

In Feb 2015, Rowell hired a team of lawyers to sue CBS/ Sony for her role of Drucilla Winters. She claimed the fact they wouldn’t consider hiring her to reprise the role violated her civil rights. And, her fans agreed with her. Many of them trashed CBS calling them racist and vowed to stop watching the show immediately.

In her original complaint, Rowell claimed her co-star treated her differently because she is African American. She stated Michelle Stafford (ex-Phyllis Summer) spit in her face once. Of course, Stafford denied the encounter ever occurred- making it a classic case of he said/she said.

There are two petitions on Change.org in support of Victoria Rowell. The first petition was directed to Proctor and Gamble urging them to force the soap operas to create more diversity on the set. Both petitions outline the requirement is to not only include more African Americans on air but behind the scenes as the hairdressers, costume directors and casting personal.

Victoria Rowell took to social media today to reach out to her fans about her ongoing case against CBS/Sony. She urged her fans she is still fighting to win her role of Drucilla Winters back, and not to lose faith that she will be successful one day soon. “Y&R” fans, are you surprised that Victoria Rowell is still suing CBS?
