The Young and the Restless and General Hospital: Worst Instance of Public Humiliation – Vote in Our Poll!

YR-GH-Public-humiliation

There’s nothing worse than public humiliation. We’ve all had it happen to us – most likely as a clueless kid or awkward teen. But, in real life, adult public humiliation is rare and perhaps that’s why it’s such an amusing spectacle when we see it in the movies and on TV. It’s always great to watch when someone really gets what’s coming to them. How often do we wish someone that did us wrong would get their just desserts for all to see? Today we’ll take a look at two recent soap servings of humble pie and ask you to decide which was the worst of all? We’ve got two from General Hospital and one from The Young and the Restless.

#1 General Hospital – Carly’s Humiliation at the Hands of Franco
Franco [Roger Howarth] may be a reformed serial killer, but he still has a killer instinct and when his love Carly Jax [Laura Wright] bedded her ex Sonny Corinthos [Maurice Benard] behind his back, Franco doesn’t hold back. If you remember, Franco gifted Carly with a hideous necklace embedded with a secret camera to get footage of her in the sack with Sonny so that neither Sonny nor Carly would be able to say he was making it up.

Then he invited Michael Corinthos [Chad Duell] to be his best man so that Carly’s son was set up to hate his mom for the terrible secret she and Sonny were hiding (over and above their affair). Carly’s mom Bobbie Spencer [Jaclyn Zeman] was also on hand, because who doesn’t want their sex secrets revealed in front of a parent? With Lucy Coe [Lynn Herring] officiating the ceremony, after Carly says I do to her vow, Lucy asks Franco if he takes Carly to be his wedded wife and Franco responds with “Hell no!”

Then Franco asks, “Why would I marry a lying, cheating whore?” Oh snap! Turns out the cheating was the very least of Carly’s sins in this case. Franco then plays hidden camera video host and shows everyone that she and Sonny have been secretly shagging – but that wasn’t the big news! Then he revealed that Sonny shot Michael’s bio-dad AJ and that Carly and Sonny had been keeping this secret from Michael.

BOOM! Franco got his revenge when he blew up Carly and Michael’s relationship. Sure she could handle getting dumped by Franco, but her son hating her was next-level. You have to hand this one to Franco – Michael deserved to know what Sonny and Carly were up to. He didn’t have to show all Carly’s loved ones her rolling in the sheets with her ex-hubby gangster, but that was just icing on the revenge cake.

#2 Young and the Restless – Chelsea’s Humiliation Courtesy of Billy

Seems like weddings are the perfect time to take revenge. Plus, when you’re done, there’s cake! Our second humiliation was also nuptials-related and takes place on Y&R at the wedding of Chelsea Newman [Melissa Claire Egan] and Billy Abbott [Burgess Jenkins]. The wedding seems like it’s going fine – Chelsea looks like a beautiful bride – dressed all in white (ironically) and Billy seems the loving groom as he starts their vows.

Billy talks about honesty and understanding and how he and Chelsea have made it through together. And then he drops the humiliation hammer! Billy rants, “And then I found out I was wrong, you did not change, Chelsea. You set me up again and you lied to me except this time my prison would have been in a marriage to you. So that whole piece about do you take this woman, NOPE, NO WAY IN HELL!”

And last minute wedding invitees Sage Warner [Kelly Sullivan] and Gabriel Bingham [Justin Hartley] should have wondered why they were asked to attend the nuptials without notice. It’s because Billy needed Gabe there for the next part of his “vows” and declared, “Our neighbor Gabe would stop by our apartment and went away with more than a cup of sugar if you know what I mean? BY THAT I MEAN SEX the two of them had sex.”

Then Billy went on to summarize Chelsea’s worst wedding habits – although he admitted he’s no saint himself. She trapped Dylan McAvoy [Steve Burton] into marriage with a baby that wasn’t his and Billy into marriage with a baby that was his. When Gabe steps up, Billy caps it off by wishing Gabe and Chelsea, “the lying con artist slut” good luck. Wow. So… looks like Billy’s single again. Wonder how long it will take him to hook up with Victoria Newman [Amelia Heinle]?

#3 General Hospital – Ric’s Humiliation at the Hands of Carly

Perhaps Franco humiliating her at their nuptials inspired Carly to publicly do in Ric Lansing [Rick Hearst] – or it could be her own long-brewing hatred of her former kidnapper. Either way, Carly could not wait to crucify Ric on stage at the Nurses Ball. Ric hired Hayden Barnes [Rebecca Budig] and aspiring actor Pete Ross as part of his scam to keep Jake Doe [Billy Miller] away from Ric’s lady love Liz Webber [Rebecca Herbst].

Ric was just hoping to keep the scan going long enough to get Liz back to the altar so he planned an on-stage proposal to Liz at the Nurses Ball. Ric had daughter Molly Lansing [Haley Pullos] drop off the ring box to Liz then took the stage to croon Bruno Mars’ Marry You. But about 30 seconds in, Carly crashed the stage, snatched the mic and popped up a photo of fake Jake and Hayden onto the big screen. Then Carly called Pete onto the stage and he copped to the scam that Ric was running.

BAM! Liz went from smiling at her new ring to storming out in anger. Ric follows and gets a mega slap in the face and his ring thrown away. Liz said she thought Ric had changed (he hadn’t) and railed that he took her choice away from her when he set up Jake with a fake wife. Then Liz dropped a nuclear truth bomb on him and said she does care about Jake and never wants to see Ric again. You have to admit that Carly deserved some payback against Ric for kidnapping her.

That being said, Carly did more than humiliate Ric and Hayden who definitely had it coming. She also embarrassed Jake and Liz and those two definitely didn’t have it coming. Carly may be expecting big thanks from the two for freeing them up to be together, but what she’s likely to get instead is two people that are angry. There were about 100 other ways that Carly could have accomplished revealing Ric’s plot without raking the two victims over the coals. But Carly is a very Machiavellian “ends justify the means” type of gal. Hopefully, Liz and Jake will be too busy getting busy to hold a grudge…

Didn’t like what Billy did. That was mean. He has done plenty of cheating himself. He was one of my favorite on the show but not now. Want Chelsee back with Adam and be happy.

I don’t watch the soaps, but public humiliation is lowdown and dirty….hmmm, that sounds pretty much like the soaps lol. I’m sure all of them were great.

My mom watches Y&R and she has for my entire life. She loves it.

  4. Rebecca Swenor says

I have not watched soaps for years but used to watch General Hospital. I would say that Carly’s Humiliation at the Hands of Franco is the worst because there is no coming back from betrayal like that. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Liz Mays says

It wouldn’t be fair for me to vote because I really don’t watch the shows and don’t know the context. They all sound pretty bad though!

  6. Elizabeth O. says

I don’t watch the soaps, but I heard of the issues. Sorry I can’t vote.

  7. Virginia says

I miss watching soaps! Can’t believe how long some of them have been around!

  8. Uplifting Families says

These are all very humiliating stories. I can’t believe that he waited until their wedding day to call of the wedding basically in the second story. I’m sure this sort of thing happens in real life too.

  9. Lisa says

#3 was the best. However, when is Liz going to Jake he’s Jason?
