‘General Hospital’ News: Shari Belafonte Joins ‘GH’ Cast As Mayor Janice Lomax

Good news, “General Hospital” fans; the ABC soap opera recasts the role of Mayor Janice Lomax with Shari Belafonte, according to Soap Opera Digest. Until now, the role of Mayor Lomax has been portrayed by Saidah Arrika Ekulona since 2012. Belafonte’s first air date will be on January 19th.

Mayor Lomax has not been seen since August when she fired Scotty Baldwin [Kin Shriner] as acting district attorney when his son, Franco [Roger Howarth] was arrested for murdering Silas Clay [Michael Easton]. At the time, she replaced Baldwin with Ric Lansing [Rick Hearst].

The arrangement didn’t last long for Ric; it didn’t take long for the police to figure out that Ric had a small part in Dr. Silas Clay’s death. Madeline Reeves [Donna Mills] wanted to get her greedy hands on her daughter, Nina’s [Michaelle Stafford] money, and she convinced Ric to assist her in getting a piece of the loot.

Madeline convinced Ric to marry Nina to get control of the millions of dollars. When that didn’t work, and she discovered that Silas was in control of Nina’s money, she cornered him and demanded that she signed the money over to her. Silas refused, and Madeline killed him.

Ric was blindsided by the revelation that Madeline killed Silas; it wasn’t part of their plan. Even though the authorities believed he didn’t know about the murder, he was still removed as acting D.A. Major Lomax was forced to appoint another D.A to oversee Port Charles.

Lomax appointed Paul Hornsby [Richard Burgi], the ex-husband of Tracy Quartermaine [Jane Elliot] and father to Dillon Quartermaine [Robert Palmer Watkins]. Hornsby was absent from the show since 1994 until he rolled back into Port Charles in July 2015 with the desire to reconnect with his adult son, Dillon.

Hornsby is only the acting D.A. right now; spoilers tease that soon the mayor will appoint the D.A.—and Paul is hoping he can land the job. Is it possible that in mid-January when Shari Belafonte debuts as Major Lomax, she will appoint a new District attorney or will Paul Hornsby position as the D.A. be solidified?
