‘Days Of Our Lives’ Interview: Peter Reckell Reveals It Was Difficult To Leave ‘DOOL’ As Bo Brady

“Days of Our Lives” icon Peter Reckell [Bo Brady] speaks about how difficult it was to leave the soap opera after all these years. He said that he knew in advance that Bo would succumb to a brain tumor after arriving and reuniting with Hope [Kristian Alfonso]. He realized after filming that many fans will not understand why they killed him off in this way, reported Soap Opera Network.
Reckell originally agreed to come back and reprise the role of Bo so the writers could properly send off the character. The previous writing regime hastefully sent Bo off, deserting his family. It was an act that really upset many fans because Bo would never leave his children without them knowing where he was.

Josh Griffith and Dena Higley had the task to correct his previous departure and rekindle his life-long relationships. “The Surprises are really kicking butt,” Reckell previews. When he first arrived on the canvas again, he was seen in a dungeon. It was discovered that he had been there for years and was tortured, which is what lead to his brain tumor that ended up killing him. Bo Brady’s best friend, Steve “Patch” Johnson [Stephen Nichols] located Bo in captivity and feed him. He brought him to Salem the day of Hope’s wedding.

“The thing that I am so proud of with these writers, especially right now, is that they have been able to do that cost saving and still have a story. That is so engaging for the fans,” Reckell noted. As the storyline wrapped up, Peter started having second thoughts about his departure. He knew right away that his stint would be limited, but start re-thinking it, and considered making it longer. At that point, it had been written and there was no turning back. Peter said, “Hey. This is fun. I am back in the sandbox, and I want to play some more.”
Soap Opera Network speculated that the actor may be open to coming back as Bo’s ghost or possibly a twin who looks exactly like Bo at some point. One thing is for sure; his death was one of those scenes that it will take his fans a long time to get past.

I have watched the show since the beginning. My mom used tape record the voice part of it while we were living overseas so I could keep up..I quit for awhile a few years ago because it became something I did not believe had the spirit of the original show. then when they brought John and Marlena and other of original family back a couple years ago I started watching again. That soion became almost a soft porn show with every one in bed with whomever. So I stopped again. I was so excited about the new writers and Ken Corday saying it was going back to the original core family and story with the return of Bo and Hope’s love story. Now to have him die I think is a slap in the face to all the fans who have been faithful to the show for so many years. I just don’t have the heart to watch anymore and to keep being disappointed by storylines nor in the original spirit of the show. Used to be fun, silly, adventuresome , romantic and feel good edge of your set can’t wait to see the next day. Now I dread watching and fast forward…well at least until I found out Bo will die. My “Days” are done… and I bet the ratings will go down…..There is enough sorrow and unhappiness in the real world ..we don’t need our hearts broken over deaths ( Will, etc) in our soap world.
They took Bo off I know he wanted to be with family but it’s just not the same without Bo and hope together not to mention having bo’s son apart from Belle what is this splitting them up just 2 put them with some one new that does not show people they need to work on their relationship to keep it going
I really don’t understand how or why Bo Brady had to be killed , I understand it was by his choice & the writers seem to have no choice , but seriously wasn’t there any way Bo could have tape several scenes to fit in w him being a dad & all , I’ve been watching since the sandbox days , the love, adventures, the sit on the edge of your seat moments , the super duo couples , the cast who really brought days to where it was , it’s going to be quite difficult to try & slide the younger generation in , the generation today isn’t into soap world & the younger generation on DOOL is not working , I’m sorry but there boring w all there whining ,, we need Bo & Hope, Patch & Kayla, the original days , Peter Reckall has done a very sensational job as Bo Brady , , I know the story line he had this week about the tumor a Glioplastoma , is on point , there is no cure, but with the right treatment can extend life to quality time , I also no Peter wants more home time , but to sit idle by & let Bo go is huge a huge mistake , I’m a fan & after a while the writers & producers are going to try really hard to fill the gap of missing Bo , & to pair Hope with Rafe ,,, not ,,,,isn’t he younger he was in love w Sami which is Bo & Hope niece , I’m so sorry but DOOL IS HEADING DOWN A ROCKY ROAD ,, Please try & fit Bo aka Peter Reckall in to the storyline away getting treatment until something breaks , I myself grew up w Bo & Hope, Patch & Kayla, Doug & Julie , We don’t see a lot of Doug & Julie but there seems to be time to squeeze them in , Can’t Bo do this ,, WE MISS YOU PETER RECKALL AKA BO BRADY , like sands through the hour glass ,,,This was a week of high emotions on the set & off , We has Fans would Like Bo Brady on DOOL , It was a week of tears & disappointments , again with the cast, the writers & Producers , the fans of Bo & Hope , I mean there were times Bo & Hope sailed off & wasn’t seen , but we knew they would be back @ least give us something to hold onto , look forward to in the spring , DOOL TAPES 4-5-6 months ahead there has to be away to jiggle around With Bo to remain ,, until then I will keep my fingers crossed & Try to get back into DOOL , but like BO SAID I DINT WANT TO LEAD ANYONE ON BUT YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF BO BRADY ,, he also explained it’s only a little while last air date is Dec 2 ,,, us fans would like to have Bo return to his life w Hope , he could land into a coma for treatment , in a research hospital ,, Please Bring him on back , I’m sure the writers , producers, directors have faced this challenge before & came through ,,,,,

I think it has been terrible the way they wrapped up Bo’s storyline. They as well as Peter Reckell should have put more thought into whether he wanted to stay longer or not, sounds like he could have if they didn’t kill him off right away. He is a valuable part of the show and they could have made his stay a little longer if indeed Peter could do that. They should have kept Bo on at least through the Holidays with a gradual death if all efforts to save him in a Hospital did not work. Yes I stopped watching DOOL years ago after Bo saved Hope from that prison and he was with Carly. I did like him and Carly and wished they could have had him moving on with her and not forgiving Hope for giving up on him..maybe that kind of a storyline would never have worked but at least we would know he left happy and not all this sadness around Holiday time,,too depressing! That along with all the killings is just too much and this Abby storyline is ridiculous!! I don’t care about them bringing Belle back she is just boring to listen to and her having affairs now? Ok whatever!! They promised better storylines and to me it is just the same ol same ol!! I wish Carly was going to be at his funeral or Billie for that matter as he did love others besides Hope. I wish they explored that situation more too. I will watch until Bo is completely gone but after that I think I will just get too bored and disgusted again.

As I prev said I think that either the Bo that came back was an imposter or they faked his death Those ppl really wanted that formula! Maybe Hope will uncover the truth for him to just come back and die….after talking to fans about closure(Ha!)….some things hinky!!!???
