‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) News: Freddie Smith Working On New Projects But Open To Return to DOOL In Future

Freddie Smith spent the last four years portraying Sonny Kiriakis on “Days of Our Lives.” When he announced he was leaving the show, the fans went crazy. They took to social media to voice how upset they were about his departure. They couldn’t believe that Smith was exiting the daytime drama. Fans can rest assured, Smith will be working on other projects and is open to returning to the show one day.

He said he knew that his contract was ending soon and decided that he needed to leave the show. He wanted to work on other opportunities, but “Days” left little to no time for him to do that. He explained that working on a soap requires 60 plus hours a week, and left him completely exhausted most of the time. “It was impossible to work on my own projects, when I had to give so much of myself to “Days of Our Lives,” Smith said.

He explained the hardest part about leaving was telling the show. He told them and his reasons and they told him he was welcome to return to the show anytime. He was surprised that they thanked him for his hard work and dedication. As for his “DOOL” fans, he thanked them for watching him for four years on the show. He said that they allowed him to tell an amazing love story and touched many lives in the process.

One of his projects is the horror flick “Hiker.” He explained that directing is one of his passion- and he has been doing it for over 10 years. He said that working with “DOOL” has taught him how to be a better director, as well. When asked why he went from daytime drama to horror flicks he replied that horror movies are perfect for the lower budge movies. You can sink 15K into the movie, and make a complete movie that can gross millions of dollars- think “The Blair Witch Project.”
